Chevron Nightstand

I know I already did a post about nightstands earlier here, but I thought this one needed a bit of....something.
More pizazz
More "Look at me!"
So, I jumped on the Chevron bandwagon!
And I gotta tell you, I totally love it!
So subtle, so pretty, so...so...
I can't even think of a word for it! lol

Score!  I also learned how to use PicMonkey a little better.  I still don't like it as much as Picnik, but these edits are cool, and I figured out how to save to my computer.(Finally.)

This is what it looked like before.  Not terrible, but not super cute either.  It looks so much better now.

Here's a little peek at how it's done.  I basically did it the easy way.  I used painters tape as the ruler.
I started with the middle, I put on strip to the left so that the end of the tape was the exact middle of the drawer.
Then I did my first stripe from the bottom middle to the top corner.
I next used the tape width as the stripe width.
I painted several coats over the course of a couple days to get the desired look.  A wash out look would've been cool too.
(Drier brush, not a lot of coverage)
I used leftover paint from my other project here.
It is gray on white, and looks lovely in my living room.
My son wants a green dresser with a motorcycle on it.  I told him maybe.  :)

PVC Pipe Garment Rack Do-Over

As you all know, in August I made a PVC Pipe Garment Rack.
It turned out pretty cool and I was proud that I made it myself.
However...
I am a perfectionist(mostly) and it just wasn't working like it was supposed to.  So I did what anyone would do...
I re-did it!

It really works out so much better now.  It holds a ton of stuff too!
The directions are super easy.
If you made the old one and just need to re-do like me...
All you have to buy is one more 4-way connector and cut 5 inches off each of your 40 inch pieces...

Supply List

1. 10 foot piece of 1 inch PVC pipe cut like this

          3 pieces of 35 in
          4 pieces of 18 inch
          3 pieces of 5 inch
          4 pieces of 12 inch
2. 6 elbows
3. 3 3-way connectors
4. 4 4-way connectors
You should have 14 cut pieces of pipe.  The people at Menard's will cut it for you if you ask real nice.

Here is a pic of what the bottom looks like, for reference.

Here is the crappy diagram I made on paint!
Hope it helps.

The easiest way to put it together is to lay it out like the diagram and then just connect the pieces!
Voila! Done!
Thanks for reading!

Thrift Store Score 5: Something's Fishy

Thrift Store Score is probably my most favoritest thing to post about!  I love sharing all the great(and cheap)  stuff I get while thrifting.
For example, I got 4 fishy placemats for the low, low price of $0.99.  A steal if you ask me.  Especially after seeing this post by Sweet Verbena.  She is brilliant!
Here is a pic of 3 of the 4.  I got such a deal on them because one had a hole and the others had small stains on them.  The best part?  The stains came right out when I washed them!
(Don't mind the crappy pics, I was taking them after bedtime)

I decided to make 2 of them into pillows for my living room.  Something colorful and whimsical to add fun to my beachy cottage.

All I did was seam rip part of the tail, and add stuffing from the old worn out pillows, sew it up and TA-DA...new fishy pillows!

They are super cute too!
(Don't mind my old worn out couch, I'm too cheap to get a new one yet.)
I'm waiting til my kids grow up.
That's what I keep telling myself anyway...
Think of what you could do with a placemat!
I'm making one into a purse...fun huh?
Thanks for reading!

My Fitness Pal

I don't know if I told you, but I got a Kindle Fire for my birthday.
I don't have a smartphone, so I have just recently discovered the wonderful world of apps!
Yay apps!
I got this new one called My Fitness Pal.
It is a place where I can record all my food intake and exercise, and it calculates how much I should be eating in a day in order to lose weight.

I LOVE IT!

I'm doing pretty good so far.
The cool part is, you can use it on the computer or as an app, and everything syncs together so you don't have to worry about it!
Super easy right?
I almost always have my kindle on me as well, so it makes it super easy.
It also remembers the stuff you ate so adding the same stuff again is a cinch!
Goodness knows I'm not a beauty queen, and I have always been big, so I need all the help I can get!!!

I'll try to keep you posted about how it goes!

~White Paint is Magic~ (Part II)

Here is another lovely white paint makeover.
I don't know if I ever told you, but my house is really small.  Really, really small.  Like 900 sq ft small.  And we have 5 people living in it.  It is so hard to get alone time in a house this small....but I digress.  I thought I needed to brighten up the house by changing all my decor from dark brown to white.  This is what the frame wall looked like before...
(It looked good, but I wanted lighter and brighter)

The walls are a nice neutral latte color(who doesn't love lattes.)
And the white frames are really going to look great.
A couple of years ago I hosted Thanksgiving at my house, and my great hubs painted all of the walls in 2 days. I guess that's one benefit to a small house. Anyway, we painted all the windows white so they would all match too. Some were wood, others were white. It was very mis-matchy. :)
Here's the frame wall now...

I finally added a copy of the family pic we had done in March!
(I'm such a slacker sometimes)
I think the wall looks great!  I am now going to add some small pops of color to it.  I have a chipboard "P" that I am going to do something with and a couple more small pictures to put up, but you get the idea right?
It really is amazing what some white paint can do.

What to do with a $$$ Store Pumpkin?

I was shopping at The Dollar Tree(my fave) the other day and I came across these great little foamie-like pumpkins.
They look a little fake, but some spray paint will fix that right up.

I've been pinning all these cute little pumpkins here and here and here, here, here.

There are just sooo many cute ideas out there...I had to narrow it down to a few of my faves.  I also love to do fake ones so I can reuse them over and over and over. :)

First I spray painted them all black.  I used basic high-gloss paint.  Nothin fancy.  They have a center seam that looked totally fake, so I hot glued ribbon around it.  Tres facile!  Then I hot glued a previously painted wood letter to the ribbon seam.
I think they turned out pretty cute.

I let my daughter glue googly eyes all over this one.  I love the orange goblet to display it(That was a thrift store score.)
I used some new editing software called PicMonkey...
and...well...I don't really like it.
You don't even want to know how long it took me to do this, and then figure out how to save it to my computer.  I ended up with about 4 copies, and in every one of them I had spelled pumpkin wrong.  Duh.

I have a bunch more cute pumpkin ideas in the works.  Check back in a couple of weeks to see em!!

Angry Birds...and then some...

My littlest turned 3 this month.
*Sigh*
Where did the time go?
He used to be my little baby...

There he is at a year...so cute..

There he is at 2...growing up so much...

Now he's all big, and he talks, and he goes on the potty....

Isn't he super cute?
As you all know 2 & 3 year olds can be stubborn(really?) and he wanted an Angry Birds Pool Party. Since we had a pool party for his sisters 2nd birthday I though it was only fair...
I was too lazy to make anything this year, so I opted for store bought stuff.
(A cop out, I know, but sometimes you just gotta)
Still looks cool, and he did so enjoy himself anyway...

The cake from Trefsgers Bakery was super good.

The favor bags full of Angry Birds goodies.

Die, Piggies, Die.
lol

The party room looked great
Max had so much fun playing with all his cousins and friends.

Last year his party was at Monkey Joe's.  And he hated it.  He did not play on anything. at. all.  I'm glad he enjoyed himself more this year.
